Cultural Insight
Eric: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Hoang Anh: Không which means “no” or “not” is pronounced as hông in southern Vietnamese. So if you talk to a Southerner, you may hear them say Tôi hông có bút to mean “I don't have a pen” or Tôi hông có thời gian to mean “I don't have time.” However, hông has no meaning in standard Vietnamese and is only spoken dialect. In writing, only không with k is accepted as correct.

Outro

Eric: And that’s all for this lesson. Don’t forget to check out the lesson notes, and we’ll see you in the next lesson!
