Southern Vietnamese Survival Phrases lesson 50 - Weather in Southern Vietnam.
Whether or not the weather will cooperate is an important question on which many plans are made and canceled. In this lesson, we'll cover a phrase that will help you finalize your plans, if they depend on the weather.
In Vietnamese, "What will the weather be tomorrow?" is Khí hậu ngày mai sẽ thế nào?
Khí hậu ngày mai sẽ thế nào?
Let’s break this down by syllable: Khí hậu ngày mai sẽ thế nào?
Once again, Khí hậu ngày mai sẽ thế nào?
The first two words, khí hậu, means "weather."
Let’s break this down: khí hậu
Khí is rising and hậu falls sharply.
khí hậu
khí hậu
This is followed by ngày mai, which means "tomorrow."
Ngày falls gradually and mai is flat.
ngày mai
ngày mai
Let’s take a look at the next word, sẽ, sẽ, which means “will” or “going to be.”
Sẽ is broken-rising.
sẽ
sẽ
This phrase is finished with thế nào, which means "how."
thế nào
Thế is rising and nào is falling.
thế nào
thế nào
So all together, we have Khí hậu ngày mai sẽ thế nào?
Literally, this means "How will the weather be tomorrow?" or "What will the weather be tomorrow?"
Let's go over some possible answers, "Tomorrow, it will rain" is Ngày mai sẽ mưa.
Ngày mai sẽ mưa.
Ngày mai sẽ mưa.
"Tomorrow will be hot" - Ngày mai nóng.
Ngày mai nóng.
Ngày mai nóng.
"What will the weather be today?" - Khí hậu hôm nay sẽ thế nào?
Khí hậu hôm nay sẽ thế nào?
As you can see, the only thing that changes here is "today," which is hôm nay.
hôm nay
Both words in these phrase are flat, hôm nay.
hôm nay
So all together once again, Khí hậu hôm nay sẽ thế nào?
Khí hậu hôm nay sẽ thế nào?
In Vietnam, most people don’t really care about the weather. During the rainy season, people put raincoats into their bags or scooters just in case it rains. In the North, there are lengthy rains at times, but in the South, it only rains in the summer and usually about once a day. Personally, I like the Southern weather.

You’ll have a few seconds before I give you the answer, so chúc may mắn, this means “good luck” in Vietnamese.
